Visitors to Portugal from North America will find relatively few banana skins lying in wait when it comes to social interaction and general day-to-day behavior. Arguably the biggest potential for faux pas is in misunderstanding what to expect. In theory, Portugal should share many of its customs with neighboring Spain. In reality, the two are remarkably distinct and comparisons or confusion with Spain are rarely welcome.
